"There's someone behind me!"
“Long Zhan’s years as a mercenary, coupled with his years of experience in overseas counter-terrorism operations, had honed his sense for danger, allowing him to make a split-second judgment.
The two people in front of him, though still unidentified, showed no signs of aggression towards him.The person hiding behind him, however, was an imminent threat.Comparing the two sides, it was clear which posed the greater threat and which target he needed to prioritize.
His muscular physique, which had been tried and tested over his 2 years as a SEAL, gave him the ability to react quickly.
The entire sequence took less than 0.3 seconds, barely longer than a blink. Long Zhan powered off his left leg to dodge right, simultaneously turning his head, pivoting his body, and swinging his gun’s muzzle in a fluid counterattack.
Sure enough, as soon as he turned around, he spotted the assailant behind him!
The assailant wore a balaclava and held an AKM rifle.
Armed with a lethal weapon and displaying clear hostile intent, this fit the SEALs' rules of engagement for a kill shot. Long Zhan didn't hesitate for even a millisecond.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The M4A1 rang out three times in quick succession.
The bandit took one round each to the left and right side of his chest, followed by a third round to the forehead.
This was the standard Mozambique drill.
In close-quarters scenarios where both sides were in a confined space, there was no time to properly aim at the target.Relying on years of muscle memory from handling firearms, he first targeted the easiest to hit area of the body, the torso.
He had to fire two shots in rapid succession, anywhere on the chest or the abdomen, to ensure at least one connected while using that brief window of time to steady his aim.A hit to the body would cause the enemy to stagger backward, briefly incapacitating them.
Then, with enough time to aim, he could deliver the fatal blow to either the heart or the head.
The whole process might sound lengthy, but it typically unfolded in under a second.
Compared to panicked, indiscriminate shooting, or the overly focused pursuit of a single-shot kill, which can waste precious time and ultimately lead to a shootout, the Mozambique drill, a safe and reliable method, is undoubtedly the most effective close-quarters combat technique.Of course, he wasn’t done just yet.
As one of the world's top ten counterterrorism special forces, the Navy SEALs left no room for error. A second later, Long Zhan fired a fourth shot, hitting the assailant in the head for a second time, ensuring he was completely dead.
Control, then neutralize, and finally, confirm the kill. These are the Navy SEALs' "Three Principles of Indoor Operations." The final shot to confirm the kill was non-negotiable, and failing to do so would result in a significant reduction in points. In real life, it could be the difference between life and death.
The SEALs' emphasis on confirmation shots stemmed from the hard-won lessons paid in blood by their veteran operators.
A "dead" body launching a sneak attack from behind, or even worse, detonating a hidden bomb, in the confines of indoor combat could have catastrophic consequences.
As for Long Zhan's initial action of dodging to the right, it wasn't about evading bullets with fancy moves, rather it was about preemptively avoiding the area where the shooter might have already been aiming.
By dodging sideways, he minimized the chance of getting shot in the head.
Even if the body was hit in the process, with the protection of the bulletproof vest and bulletproof plates, the chance of being killed on the spot is obviously much lower than if you were to be shot in the head.
There were many such subtle maneuvers, which together made up the foundation of what it was that allowed for special forces personnel to survive as many dangerous encounters as they, on average, did.
"The awareness of danger, reaction speed, and handling methods are all infinitely close to perfection. He is worthy of being labeled as a monster among this batch of trainees. His performance is impeccable." Special training instructor Adam was delighted with Long Zhan's performance and gave him a perfect score without hesitation.
At this point, Long Zhan's training exercise was effectively over.
The man behind him was the one he needed to eliminate. The woman in front was a terrorist disguised as a civilian, and the man was Long Zhan's undercover teammate. The female terrorist had already been subdued by his teammate and could be ignored.
Thankfully, Long Zhan hadn’t rushed to shoot, otherwise, regardless of who he shot, he would still fail. This not only demonstrated his strong mental fortitude, but also his composure, resilience, and ability to handle unexpected situations. If he had shot either one of the two of them, the bandit behind him would have killed him, resulting in a complete failure!
Instead, in under two seconds, he spotted and flawlessly neutralized the enemy, showcasing the crisis management awareness and solid special operations fundamentals required of every operator.
Perfect score! An utterly flawless, perfect score! However, just as Adam was about to signal the end of the scenario, reset the scene in the S&T training room, and allow the next trainee to enter, something happened that left everyone watching stunned. After confirming the kill with his follow-up shot, Long Zhan whipped his gun around without missing a beat and fired off a fifth round.
A blue mark appeared on the man's hand, indicating that the hand that was holding the gun was now useless.
Having neutralized the immediate threat, Long Zhan's massive frame moved with an eerie agility, lunging toward the remaining two people like a predator at his prey.
As the man and woman sat still and stared in astonishment, he threw two punches at them. The woman's head snapped sideways, and she immediately crumpled to the ground, unconscious. The man on the other hand was dazed and confused, staggering as he struggled to regain his bearings.Mind you, this was Long Zhan using less than a third of his power, as he didn’t want to hurt anyone in a simple training exercise.
Otherwise, with his fists that were larger than casserole pots, honed from years of punching sandbags, he could have easily killed the two men.At the very least, they would have suffered severe concussions!
Seeing that the man hadn't fully gone down from his punch, Long Zhan grabbed his arm, poised for a massive over-the-shoulder throw.
Instructor Adam, as the first one to snap out of it, had to quickly control the situation, “Stop! Stop! The simulation is over.”"It's over already?”
Long Zhan's control over his power was nearly perfect. The instant he heard the instructor's command, he pulled back, sparing the undercover man from being thrown.
This saved a talented instructor from being bedridden for the next three days, or even a week.
Setting the shorter man, who was barely 5'9", down gently, Long Zhan noted that he was pale in the face and could barely stand, “Sorry about that, friend. You holding up okay?”"Oh my God, you monster. Being your sparring partner is way too risky. From now on, I'm steering clear of your training sessions.”
The undercover man leaned against the wall, still shaken up, glancing at the woman sprawled on the floor. He grumbled in exasperation, "How could you hit a beautiful woman like this? You're a straight-up butcher."
"Uh..."
Long Zhan touched his nose helplessly. He bent down and helped the woman lie in his arms, then used some traditional Chinese acupuncture techniques to wake her up.Only then did Long Zhan realize that the woman he had knocked unconscious was actually quite beautiful.More importantly, he recognized her.
