Series: The All-Rounder Employee Becomes a Legend
Chapter: 19
Title: A Smooth Training Center Life
------------------
On the top bunk. In the dark room, Taeseok used his phone as a light and read the entire training center guide.
Then, something popped up.
[You have read the entire El Sung Group New Employee Training Program guide.]
[You have acquired 5 Points as a reward.]
Quest complete.
It gives a reward for doing as it says.
But I still wasn't sure if the points were of any use.
I finished the book and was about to sleep, but it was already midnight.
May 1, 2018, 00:00.
But then, the system started talking to me.
[Your official start date is today. Your salary will be calculated from today.]
[You have acquired the Job (New Employee).]
‘Ah… so I’m officially a New Employee starting today?’
It seemed the company had a sort of trial period.
Taeseok grinned.
But the messages weren't over.
[General Quest – Vision Upgrade.]
The eyes of a job seeker and a new employee are different, aren't they?
Upgrade your eyes and secure an advantageous position in the new employee training program.
And a notification.
[A new item has arrived in the New Employee Exclusive Shop.]
《New Employee Exclusive Shop Sales List / Current Honor Rank 1》
※ You can obtain rarer items by increasing your Honor Rank.
New : Vision Upgrade Potion (Cost: 10 Points)
Upon consumption, the rank of Job Seeker's Eyes will increase by one level to New Employee's Eyes.
※ Effect upon upgrade: You can acquire information necessary for a new employee as a skill.
He had never used the shop before.
So he was curious about how to use it.
‘Should I buy that?’
But selecting it with his hand didn't work.
At times like this, the system always stepped in.
[System Message – Say the item's name in your mind, followed by the word 'purchase'.]
‘Right. Got it. Vision Upgrade Potion, purchase!’
As Taeseok shouted inwardly just as the system instructed, a brilliant flash of light erupted before his eyes.
‘It's so bright!’
And there, in front of him as he lay down, was the very potion he had seen on the screen.
But…
Was it because the room had suddenly lit up?
His roommate, lying on the bottom bunk, spoke up toward the top bunk.
“Kim Taeseok!”
“Yes?”
“What are you doing at this hour? Are you doing this on purpose?”
“I'm sorry.”
“Please be more careful.”
A chilly atmosphere. Taeseok pulled the blanket over his head and observed the potion.
A glass bottle filled with a purple liquid.
An unidentifiable liquid inside.
‘Is this safe to drink? It's not poison, is it?’
[System Message – Would you like me to erase your memory?]
‘No. It's fine.’
Taeseok opened the glass bottle and gulped down the purple liquid. Then, the liquid suddenly flowed backward from his mouth to his nose, and from his nose toward his eyes, where it felt like it was spinning around them.
‘Ugh, this feels awful.’
A skin-crawling sensation.
But there was nothing Taeseok could do right now.
But then, the system said something strange.
[System Message – 2 hours and 59 minutes remaining until vision upgrade is complete. The unpleasant sensation will not cease during this time. Please go to sleep for now.]
‘You should have told me beforehand!’
[System Message – You should have asked beforehand, shouldn't you?]
* * *
He somehow managed to fall asleep, leaving the unpleasant sensation behind.
‘Humans are truly strange creatures. You can even sleep once you get used to discomfort. I mean, some people can sleep while walking, so why wouldn't I be able to sleep just because my eyes felt weird?’
Before he knew it, it was 5:50 AM.
As the team leader, he had to wake up at this time to relieve the person on duty, so Taeseok had gotten up ten minutes early, washed up, and was heading to the small meeting room.
Spotting the two colleagues on duty, Taeseok smiled and spoke.
“You worked hard late last night. I'll take over for you.”
“Ah… you're here early.”
“Am I? If you could just open the right door and the window on your way out, I'll take care of the rest.”
“Okay. Good work.”
The colleagues exchanged greetings and left.
He opened the door to the small meeting room, turned on the lights, and sat down.
Alone, Taeseok decided to check out his newly upgraded New Employee's Eyes.
The same green world unfolded before him, but…
‘Huh?’
The course textbook, which had shown no reaction yesterday, was now responding to his vision.
He viewed the book.
Unlike yesterday, all the important parts were now highlighted.
‘This must be what's on the test, right?’
A truly amazing and strange ability.
But using it for too long strained his eyes.
Taeseok first blinked three times to stop using the ability and looked for a ballpoint pen.
Just then, his Guiding Senior entered the meeting room.
Taeseok greeted the Senior with a bright smile.
“Good morning.”
“Yeah. Taeseok! Something good happen?”
“No, nothing like that.”
“Really? You look like you're in a good mood.”
“Do I? Haha.”
Tae-seok asked his Guiding Senior with a good-natured laugh.
“Would you like some coffee?”
“Sounds great.”
“All the sugar? Or just half?”
“All of it, of course.”
“Water to half the paper cup?”
“That's the best way, nice and strong.”
“Yes. Understood.”
Tae-seok grinned.
The Guiding Senior, Kim Min-seong, had the same style as him.
The typical manual labor site style.
On-site, they usually drank instant coffee mix, and quite strong at that. In places full of dust and particles, strong coffee gave the feeling of settling the phlegm in your throat.
‘He must be a smoker.’
After drinking the coffee Tae-seok had made, he nodded to himself and thought.
‘This kid seems to have some real-world experience. From his polite greetings to his proactive attitude, I like everything about him.’
But there was no need to show it. It was only the first week.
There were still two more weeks until job assignments.
After finishing his coffee, he checked that it was 6 AM and said to Tae-seok.
“Why don't you start the wake-up broadcast?”
“Yes.”
The training center, where the day began with upbeat dance music.
“No other problems, right?”
“No, sir. I'll ask if I have any questions. Is there anything you need me to do?”
“No, nothing like that. Tae-seok, you seem to have some real-world experience, huh?”
“Ah, I knocked around a few manual labor sites for a couple of years.”
“Is that so?”
The Guiding Senior turned his head away from Tae-seok.
And thought.
‘I should ask him if he's interested in sales.’
* * *
The smooth schedule continued.
In the morning, they had a class on organizational behavior, and in the afternoon, a class on the founder's ideology.
Manager Lee Ki-hoon, who had previously worked in the Secretariat, finished the class on the founder's ideology and began to speak.
“You all know, right? That there's a first comprehensive evaluation this Friday.”
“Yes!”
“The first comprehensive evaluation is to check your understanding of the subjects you've learned this week. It will not only be reflected in your job selection but also in your overall grade at the training center, so you must study hard.”
“Are there any sample questions?”
“The person who asked, what's your name?”
“It's Kim Dong-hoon.”
“Dong-hoon! People who don't put in the effort are not needed in our Elseong Group. Don't try to find the easy way out; overcome challenges with hard work.”
“……Understood.”
A test in the very first week… everyone shook their heads.
But there was one person who was completely at ease.
Tae-seok had already marked all the important parts in the textbooks for the classes he took today.
Since he could identify the important parts before the lecture, the content naturally sank in easily.
Managing the team was also going smoothly.
His colleagues, who had accepted Tae-seok as their team leader in just one day, were adapting to life at the training center without any major disturbances.
After dinner, it was time for the evening class.
Finally, the time had come for the Elseong Gymnastics he had prepared for yesterday to shine.
The guest instructor, Choi Yu-na, smiled and spoke to everyone.
“We've now gone over all 14 movements. Is there anyone who thinks, ‘I can do it from start to finish without a single mistake’?”
At that, five people, including Tae-seok, stepped forward.
A smile graced the female instructor's face as she looked at the six volunteers.
“Just the people I expected. I've actually been watching you all closely. Usually, people aren't this good on the first day, but you all are quite skilled. Well then, are you ready to go right away if I play the music?”
Everyone nodded, and the music began.
A class that could be somewhat embarrassing.
In the large auditorium filled with over 100 people, the volunteers, including Tae-seok, began the Elseong Gymnastics they had practiced beforehand.
Instructor Choi Yu-na smiled as she watched them.
She was paying special attention to Tae-seok, who hadn't made a single mistake from beginning to end.
After checking the name tag pinned to his training suit, she spoke to Tae-seok.
“Kim Tae-seok.”
“Yes.”
“Did you practice?”
Tae-seok grinned.
“A little.”
“You were all excellent, but Kim Tae-seok was the best. Please give a round of applause for the six colleagues, including Kim Tae-seok, who bravely came forward today.”
At Instructor Choi Yu-na's words, the members of B Team applauded.
The volunteers bowed and were about to return to their spots.
But the instructor stopped them.
“Where are you going?”
“……”
“Since you're already up here, you can be the teaching assistants for your colleagues before you go back. Alright! For everyone else, I'm going to play the music one more time, so follow the movements of the six assistants in front and work on what you're lacking. Music ready! Cue!”
The music played once more.
Everyone began to unite through the Elseong Gymnastics.
Choi Yu-na grinned.
‘Today’s session is going more smoothly than usual.’
As the music played, Choi Yu-na held the B Team attendance sheet and checked the names of the teaching assistants.
She confirmed the names of the five assistants and marked down an A.
Seeing this, the five employees acting as teaching assistants couldn't help but smile.
And then there was the person who had gotten up on the platform, braving the embarrassment to perform the gymnastics with perfect movements.
Her eyes passed over Kim Tae-seok, and a small smile formed on her lips.
A looping… A.
And a plus sign.
As she gave Tae-seok the only A+ among the 100 trainees, she thought to herself.
‘An A+ on the very first day? Was I too generous?’
